Check Your Amex Gift Card Balance
This applies to both physical Amex Gift Cards and eGift Cards. Funds never expire on either card type.
1
Understand What the Valid Thru Date Means
The Valid Thru date printed on your card is not an expiration date for your funds. It exists solely for fraud protection and to enable online, phone, and mail-order transactions that require a card expiration date. Your money remains safe and accessible beyond this date.
2
Know That Your Funds Remain Available After the Valid Thru Date
Even if the Valid Thru date on your card has passed, your remaining balance is still intact. American Express does not forfeit or reduce your funds when the Valid Thru date expires.
3
Request a Replacement Card If Your Valid Thru Date Has Passed
If your Valid Thru date has expired and you’re experiencing difficulty using your card, call American Express Gift Card Customer Care at 1-888-846-4308 to request a replacement card. The process is straightforward and your balance will be preserved.
4
Confirm Your Balance Will Transfer to the New Card
When a replacement card is issued, your full remaining balance is transferred to the new card. Confirm this with the representative before ending the call so you know what to expect on the replacement.
5
